Office Lighting Design & Installation
Office lighting design and installation for comfortable, practical workplaces, including task lighting, smart controls, meeting rooms and reception areas.
Lighting designed for working spaces
Office lighting needs to support the way a workplace is actually used. Voltnet designs and installs practical lighting for businesses that are fitting out a space, improving an existing office or replacing dated lighting infrastructure.
We consider visual comfort, the tasks carried out in each area and how the lighting should be controlled. The aim is a clear, usable lighting scheme rather than a one-size-fits-all arrangement.
Who this is for
Office managers, business owners, facilities teams and contractors planning a new workplace, refurbishment or lighting upgrade.
What we can discuss
New office lighting, LED retrofits, task lighting, meeting-room control, reception features and breakout-area lighting.
Design and upgrade scope
Depending on the building and the brief, the work can include a new office lighting layout or a targeted retrofit of the existing installation. We use direct and indirect lighting, high-CRI LEDs and fittings selected for the space and its day-to-day use.
- Suspended linear LED profiles
- Recessed LED panels (UGR<19)
- T5/T8 fluorescent-to-LED retrofits
- Task lighting for work areas
- High-bay and panel-light replacement where relevant
- Reception desk and feature lighting
- Boardroom and meeting-room lighting
- Breakout-area mood lighting
LED upgrades and control
Replacing older fluorescent or halogen fittings with LED equipment can change the way a workplace is lit and operated. We assess the existing installation and propose a suitable upgrade rather than promising a standard saving or a fixed return on investment. The final specification depends on the fittings, controls, operating pattern and condition of the existing infrastructure.
Smart controls can include DALI dimming, boardroom controls, daylight harvesting and sensor integration where appropriate to the space. These options can help the lighting respond to occupancy, daylight and different workplace activities, subject to the agreed design and equipment.
Workplace settings
The lighting approach can be adapted for different areas within the same workplace:
Open-plan offices
Consistent, comfortable illumination for shared desk areas and circulation routes.
Meeting rooms and boardrooms
Dimmable or controlled lighting for presentations, discussions and focused work.
Reception areas
Practical visitor lighting with feature options around the desk and entrance.
Breakout areas
A more flexible atmosphere for informal work, collaboration and rest spaces.
From site survey to installation
We start by understanding the workplace, existing fittings and the areas that need to be improved. A site discussion or survey helps establish the available infrastructure, the intended use of each space and whether the brief is for a complete design or a targeted upgrade.
- 1Discuss the building, working areas, existing lighting and the intended use of the space.
- 2Review suitable fittings, control options and any retrofit or installation requirements.
- 3Agree the scope, access arrangements and sequence of work before installation.
- 4Install, adjust and test the agreed lighting work, with any handover requirements confirmed as part of the project scope.
Where a workplace remains in use, access and sequencing can be discussed in advance to help manage disruption. The practical arrangements depend on the building, the existing installation and the agreed scope; out-of-hours working is not assumed.
Testing, compliance and handover
Testing and documentation requirements should be confirmed when the work is scoped. Related commercial services on this site include electrical inspection and testing, emergency-lighting testing and lighting repairs, but not every office-lighting project requires the same package.
If you need drawings, schedules or as-built documentation for a handover or facilities file, raise that requirement at quotation stage so the deliverables can be agreed clearly. Voltnet also provides electrical design and CAD drawing services for projects that need more detailed documentation.

Office lighting FAQ
Can you upgrade existing fluorescent office lighting?
Yes. The existing commercial lighting scope includes T5/T8 fluorescent-to-LED retrofits, panel-light retrofits and targeted upgrades. The suitable approach depends on the current fittings, infrastructure and the areas being changed.
Can lighting be controlled by sensors or daylight?
Sensor integration, DALI dimming and daylight harvesting are existing control options on the site. Their suitability depends on the room layout, available equipment and the agreed lighting design.
Can you design lighting for meeting rooms and reception areas?
Yes. The current office-lighting scope includes boardroom and meeting-room control, reception desk feature lighting and breakout-area lighting, alongside general office solutions.
Will the office need to close during the work?
Not necessarily, but this depends on the installation and the building. Access, sequencing and working arrangements can be discussed before the work is agreed so disruption can be managed realistically.
Can you provide testing or handover documents?
Testing and documentation should be agreed as part of the quotation. Related services include electrical inspection and testing, emergency-lighting testing and CAD or as-built documentation where required.
