EV charger installation for homes and businesses
This is the transactional installation page for customers who are ready to discuss a charger, property and electrical supply. Voltnet Engineering Ltd provides EV charger installations for domestic and commercial clients across London, Essex, Kent and Middlesex.
The installation route can cover a simple home charger, a workplace chargepoint or a more complex commercial fleet network. The suitable equipment and installation scope depend on the property, parking position, existing supply and how the charger will be used.
Site assessment before installation
We assess the proposed charger position, the route from the supply and the condition and capacity of the existing consumer unit. The location of the fuse box and the desired charger position can affect the work required. Load management is also considered where the charger needs to operate alongside the property's existing electrical demand.
EV chargers require a dedicated circuit. Where the existing consumer unit does not have the capacity or safety features required, the current service information allows for a separate mini-consumer unit to be considered. Any supply-side question should be raised during assessment rather than assumed from the property type.
What a typical installation includes
- Initial site assessment and discussion of the charger position
- Review of the consumer unit, fuse box and available electrical supply
- Load management assessment and dedicated circuit planning
- Electrical works, charger installation and connection
- Testing and full safety certification for the agreed installation
- Explanation of the charger app and available post-install support
The final scope is confirmed after the property and installation requirements have been assessed. A standard domestic installation is not assumed to be identical to a workplace or fleet project.
Testing, certification and handover
The installation process includes final testing and safety certification, with work carried out to the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) as stated in the existing service information. The handover should cover the agreed installation, relevant certification and any available guidance needed to use the charger and app.
The project includes a 2021 City & Guilds Level 3 qualification in domestic, commercial and industrial EV charging equipment installation. Grant eligibility and application requirements depend on the current scheme and the customer's circumstances. The incoming supply and cut-out may also involve DNO or electricity-supplier responsibilities, as shown in the existing customer information examples, so supply-side work should be clarified during the assessment.
For qualification context, see the EV installation, BS 7671 and inspection/testing qualifications.
Commercial and fleet installations
For businesses, we design scalable solutions for workplaces, depots and commercial sites, with smart management features that can track usage and costs. The required network, access controls, reporting and future capacity depend on the number of vehicles, chargepoints and intended use.
